Dinosaur Train

Dinosaur Train

Spring 2010 Television
Ages: 3 - 6 yrs.
Review:
Just right for budding paleontologists ages 4 to 7, Dinosaur Train is an animated series offering dino-inspired stats and vocabulary. It starts with a lengthy opening theme song explaining how a dinosaur mom takes her four kids (one is an adopted T-Rex) for a ride on the Dinosaur Train. Throughout the journey, they meet and learn more about a variety of dinosaur species, with a mixed bag of character lessons thrown in for good measure. Want to know what a carnivore is? Dinosaur Train will tell you. Need a kid-friendly explanation for adoption, or just the right pep talk to encourage a kid who's trying a challenging new task? Dinosaur Train can help with that, too.

Each half-hour episode offers two original stories, with short segments in the middle and end featuring an affable guy who introduces himself as "Dr. Scott-the-Paleontologist." The short segments shine with a blend of live action and colorful graphics as Dr. Scott presents more facts about dinosaurs and connects characteristics and behavior to similar current-day creatures. He encourages kids to "get outside, get into nature, and make your own discoveries," a great message for this generation of wired-in kids.
