Dos y Dos

Dos y Dos

Spring 2010 Television
Ages: 2 - 7 yrs.
Network: LATV
Airing on the Latin American Television Network, Dos y Dos is a bilingual Spanish/English television program for preschoolers. About 90% of the program is in Spanish as a live cast of four bright-eyed happy teens sing, dance, and work together to find puzzle pieces that ultimately reveal the program's theme. According to its website, Dos y Dos currently airs in 42 cities across the United States, including 19 of the top 21 Hispanic markets, and a live music tour is planned for later in 2010.

In both look and pace, Dos y Dos is somewhat reminiscent of The Wiggles,

but it has a lot of originality in its content. Cast members speak directly to viewers (and we frequently hear cheerful children's voices answering back), teaching basic academic and social skills. Occasionally, a character will speak in English and another answers in Spanish, encouraging bilingualism. Even if your child doesn't fully grasp one of the languages being spoken, the cast is expressive in their motions and refer liberally to props, making it easy to get the gist of the story.

Young children are likely to be engaged by the set, a mix of brightly colored props and furniture set against graphic backdrops. They're also likely to think of the energetic teen cast as cheerful big brothers and sisters, and they'll bounce along to the lively song and dance numbers (some in Spanish, some in English).

Whether your goal is to teach your Spanish-speaking child to learn a little English, or introduce your English-speaking child to a little Spanish, Dos y Dos is a spirited and worthwhile half-hour of viewing.
