Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!: Wubbzy Goes To School

Fall 2010 DVD
Ages: 2 - 6 yrs.
DVD Price: $16.98

In "Who Needs School?" Wubbzy is at first excited about starting class, but hears others complaining about it, so he decides not to go. (Education is apparently not compulsory in Wuzzleberg.) Thinking he can learn everything on his own, Wubbzy goes to his smart friend Walden and asks to use his personal library. He starts with a book and reads "aardvark," "abacus" "accordion" "anchor" (which is pretty good reading for a beginner) but he decides learning that way "will take forever." So he goes to his inventor friend Widget and asks for a robot helper. "The Peachy Teacher 3000 does all the work, and all you have to do is play," she says. However, with all his friends at school, Wubbzy finds playtime is lonely. Following the sound of laughter, he finds himself at the school building and discovers not only that his friends are having a great time, but also learns that Walden is the teacher.

In the episode "Gotta Dance," Widget is inspired to take up ballet, but doesn't think she needs lessons. She tries reading books to learn, but fails. Then she builds the Dancy Pants 3000 and ends up doing grand jétés uncontrollably through town. Dance teacher Madame Zalina sees her and tells her she's "magnifico!" (shouldn't that be magnifique?) and Widget sheepishly admits she does need lessons after all.

In "Magic Tricks," Wubbzy finds he's not nearly as good at learning the tricks as his friends are, but that his persistence and patience are ultimately rewarded. "Wubbzy the Star" finds Wubbzy using one of Widget's inventions to get the starring role in the play, then having to give up the part when the invention goes haywire. He can be a star painting the scenery, and he's glad to do it, so it all works out. The formulaic, but pleasantly predictable collection continues with "New Kid on the Block" and "You Gotta Have Art."
