Cyberchase

Cyberchase

Fall 2010 Website
Ages: 6 - 11 yrs.
Publisher: Thirteen/ WNET
Review:

Like its counterpart television show, the Cyberchase web site is smart and engaging. It buries math concepts into appealing animated characters, adventures and games. By creating a simple username you can create games, participate in weekly trivia, polls and the Cyberchase club which offers projects and print-outs. However, you can play any of the 40-plus games on the site without logging in.

The games are all built around math, tackling things like fractions, measurements, bar graphs and pie charts in an entertaining way and kids don't need to be familiar with the television show to enjoy the site. It's educational, creative, easy to navigate -- you can let them indulge guilt-free. The concepts of other popular social media sites for kids are all here. A "secret box" lets users customize a personal room, collect favorite videos, keep track of friends, and post personal game scores.

The graphics are eye-catching but they may drag down older computers and the site requires a Flash plugin which requires installation on some computers and smart phones.
