Review:

In The Science of Disney Imagineering: Electricity, kids learn all about electrical energy and how it's conducted. There's plenty to learn about power behind the scenes at the Magic Kingdom's famous SpectroMagic parade (with its half-million bulbs!); and then it's off to the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage attraction to learn how water conducts electricity. One lesson even takes place aboard a Disney cruise ship where the host explains static electricity and its connection to lightning rods. And as you'd expect from the pros at Disney, it's all done with built-in safety explanations that discourage kids from trying unsupervised experiments with electricity.

For all the locales, this is nota Disney travelogue. The focus here is strictly on science, and the lessons are thorough and advanced, meeting the National Science Education Standards for students in grades 5 - 8.

In addition to the main program content, the DVD includes a number of enriching bonus features, including instructions for an experiment, and an Interactive Whiteboard-compatible assessment tool, plus a downloadable educator's guide with additional classroom resources and activities.

The only negative in this program is the lack of female representation, a crucial oversight in a series promoting Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics education. Imagineer Asa introduces viewers to other Disney Imagineers and all of them are males. Beyond that, though, The Science of Disney Imagineering: Electricity is an exceptional value to supplement a classroom or homeschooler's curriculum.
