Baa Baa Black SheepSpring 2011 Mobile Apps
Duck Duck Moose presents another engaging iPod app for the toddler set with Baa Baa Black Sheep. Although the recommended ages are 3-5 years, this is really an app best suited for younger children, even as early as age 2. The concept is simple - four silhouetted shapes are shown at the bottom of the screen and children must find those shapes in the scenes and drag them to the matching shape below. When they have successfully identified all of the shapes, a new set of shapes appears. They search for shapes while familiar children's nursery rhymes like Baa, Baa Black Sheep and Row, Row, Row Your Boat play in the background. By tapping on objects, they trigger different actions within the scene, such as opening a clam's mouth to reveal an object hidden inside or having a sheep jump into a boat.
Although the sets of shapes change, the scenes remain the same. This scenario works well for toddlers who will be engaged in the shape-finding activity as well as discovering different sounds and actions throughout the scenes. However, older children may lose interest in the repetitive nature of the program. Overall, we would recommend this as a great introductory app for children ages 2-3 yrs.
