Review:

The 25th Anniversary of Super Mario All-Stars original Super Nintendo title gives Nintendo more than enough incentive to release a remake and repackaging of the Super Mario All-Stars lineup. Included are the four earliest Mario games--Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, and 3, plus the "The Lost Levels" title.

Nintendo has also included a history of the Super Mario franchise from 1985 to 2010, and a soundtrack with some of Super Mario Bros.' greatest hits that leans heavily on sound effects.

For youngsters who weren't in on the ground floor with Super Mario, this anniversary package could be an awakening-and certainly an amazing lesson in how far videogame graphics and animation have advanced in just 25 years. And for those of us who remember playing the original Super Mario titles, and even once in a great while think nostalgically about bopping all those little enemies and jumping, running, swimming and flying around those odd environments, the anniversary package is a blessing.

These classic Super Mario games are still a blast, and this remake of the originals, which contributed greatly to the development of video gaming in general, includes a few new tricks. Characters are upgraded, and landscapes are a little more detailed. It's a facelift of the old games playable on today's system.

Players will discover (or re-discover) that the early Super Marios were really great games-and they still are.
