Mind of My OwnSpring 2011 Music
In her new CD, singer-guitarist Frances England takes songs about balloons, bicycles and "Vacation Delights" in fresh, melodic and lyric directions. "Ladybug" is one of many beautiful tracks that celebrate how closely children observe and relate to their immediate world. The title song absolutely nails how a kid's growing sense of self doesn't always mesh with parental expectations: "I thought that we could decorate the living room with a 100 balloons/and I thought that we could stay in our pajamas till the afternoon/I thought that we could skip the bath and skip the shampoo/and I thought that we could paint the wall with glittering glue…."
England is an original, an exceptionally creative and musically astute children's artist whose unique musical vision was apparent in her 2007 debut album, "Fascinating Creatures," which put her among other top artists in the field. With the authenticity of her alt-rock and acoustic folk rhythms, her expressive vocals and gentle, slightly offbeat approach to what it means to be a child-and a parent-England again proves that she's the real deal.
