History and Heritage Campaign

History and Heritage Campaign

Spring 2011 Television
Ages: 2 - 5 yrs.
Producer: Nickelodeon
Network: Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon presents History and Heritage Campaign, a series of short animated segments shining the spotlight on our country's cultural heritage. The segments provide a wonderful complement to Black History Month, Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, Hispanic Heritage Month and more. The production value of each segment is exceptional - although each one is entirely unique, too, maintaining a tone and look in keeping with the culture or person being featured.

Preschoolers and even early elementary aged children are likely to be fascinated by these brief, but fact-filled, segments that provide examples of food, traditions, music, and holidays celebrated in different cultures. An additional collection of segments celebrates notable figures in history, including Galileo, primatologist Jane Goodall, the first African American female brain surgeon, and even the man who invented the zipper.

Each segment in the History and Heritage campaign runs about a minute long, but that's more than enough time to broaden little viewers' minds and give them more reason to understand and celebrate our country's diversity. Parents are just as likely to enjoy these unique and informative vignettes. Each segment ends by inviting parents to visit the accompanying website with their children, which offers the opportunity to view all of the campaign's segments on demand, play games, print coloring pages, and find interesting craft ideas. For parents and teachers looking for new ways to expand horizons and celebrate diversity, Nickelodeon's History and Heritage Campaign hits a grand-slam.
