Duck Duck Moose is back with a delightful introduction to the world of music.
Toddlers get plenty of cause and effect satisfaction as they tap their way into the waters of musical instruments and the notes, rhythm, and pitch the player of these instruments can produce. Tapping on the child-voiced brown mouse guides users to five different background settings (where the mouse changes his wardrobe to match). Each offers easy-to-play games at three levels of difficulty and four choices for musical sounds (voice, piano, cello, and synthesizer). The repertoire of 15 simple traditional childhood nursery rhyme songs includes the Muffin Man, Skip to My Lou, Old MacDonald's Farm, Yankee Doodle, and so on.
Especially fun was the note pattern matching game where level one is a three-note pattern, level two four notes, and level three five notes. A gentle "oops" and reasonable tone of congratulatory praise lets players know whether or not they've met the challenge. Our testers found the "Notes" game the most instructive in which fledgling composers slide notes up and down the treble clef to play the note as shown, and then hear and see the note as it changes.
