Review:

Classical violinist and folk musician Susan Reed combines her talents as a multi-instrumentalist with inventive turns of phrase and a storyteller's gift of suspense and humor. The standout title track is a description of a cloud-watcher's dream parade of animal shapes floating and lumbering past. In "The Song and the Wind," Reed tells of the origins of music: "soft and fuzzy, green, jagged and spiky" notes burst from the first-ever flowers, and the mothers gather the notes from the sky and give them to "the children to play with." "Why Kids Are Not in Charge" is Reed in witty mode, as a child gets to decide the fate of his misbehaving peers. Lending sterling accompaniment are several string musicians and vocalists (the majority of whom are also Reeds).
