Review:

Whether your children are practicing musicians or simply merry music-makers clanging pots and pans in the kitchen, they’ll be swept away by Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin.

Lyrical prose, rhythmic background sounds, and inspired animation breathe life into fifteen musically-themed storybooks aimed at children ages four to eight. Don’t be fooled by that age range. It’s very likely that anyone who’s in the room when this DVD plays will be captivated by its tuneful beauty.

The 3-DVD set offers exceptional variety in its stories. Selections range from the jazzy "Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin", with its cleverly paced verses and music supplied by Marvin Hamlisch, to a soulful rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner", brilliantly performed by Aretha Franklin. Some of the stories include celebrity narration, including the voice talents of Zach Braff , and those stories have an optional read-along feature where the words appear in graphics at the bottom of the screen.

Other stories simply let sound be the star, as in the soothing, beautiful Patrick, a story that relies solely on ambient noises as the title character walks through a market, buys a violin, then sits on a riverbank to play, inspiring some truly enchanted results.

Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin is a must-have, a melodic and smart collection of stories and music sure to have your kids crying, "Bravo!" and "Encore!"
