Review:

Magnet Science from Kidz Labs is a set containing magnets varying from very weak fish-shaped pieces to some fairly strong bar magnets. These can be used to build a small range of projects to test the capabilities of these magnets. Components are included to make a boat, a car, and a fishing wand/hover magnet. The included manual offers projects to show that magnets work even in water and, if they are strong enough, through wood. The inclusion of vehicles makes the discovery of magnet science more fun than it might be otherwise. Instead of merely seeing that magnets repel each other, kids can use magnetic repulsion to fling a car across a table or a boat through the water. Magnetic attraction is strong enough to pull a car along when the magnet is under an inch of wood. Merely testing magnets on every surface in the house is entertaining enough to keep smaller children coming back. The kit appeals to (and is readily understood by) children as young as six, though the science in the instruction manual is so limited that older, more inquisitive minds will need to look to other sources to gain any real understanding. It's a good deal, and despite its lack of depth, children will really enjoy it.
