Review:

Accomplished British stage and screen actor James Frain gives a dynamic reading of an unabridged edition of Jules Verne's visionary 19th century science fiction classic. Captain Nemo is terrorizing the seas with his fantastic submersible, the Nautilus. This frightening phenomenon is at first thought to be some gigantic ocean predator until three survivors of its deadly attack-a French professor of marine biology, his assistant and a master harpoonist-find themselves in the Nautilus' lavishly appointed iron belly. As involuntary guests of obsessive arch-villain and scientific genius Nemo, they become fellow adventurers, traveling the world's oceans and witnessing never-before-seen technological marvels. The inclusion of Ray Bradbury's thoughtful, often lyrical introduction, contrasting Verne's grand adventure with Melville's "Moby Dick" and filled with resonances for America's own past, present and future, is a bonus for adults and older teens.
