Conceptually, the InnoTab might be just the ticket for parents whose iPads or tablets spend more time in four-six year olds hands than their own. The InnoTab is a touch screen device that is durable, easy to hold and visually appealing.

It comes pre-loaded with games, books, and coloring activities. There are also sample photographs and music. Although there is no camera or video function, parents can upload their own media by syncing the device with the computer using the included USB cable. There is a calendar where users can mark important days with icons, a photo viewer and editor, an artist's studio, and a notepad. Additional content can be purchased.

Although it is designed to mimic the look and interface of other tablets such as the iPad, those who are familiar with those environments will find that this feels clunky in comparison. Our testers had some issues with touch-screen responses and sensitivity. The quality of the sound and imagery may not compare to more sophisticated devices, but they're certainly sufficient for a device in this price range. The limited selection of "apps" is also not a surprise; the Learning Lodge does not pretend to be iTunes. Overall, parents looking for a reasonably priced tablet designed for younger children should put the InnoTab on the short list.
