Review:

Big Wig is an engaging picture book that will teach boys and girls a lesson about history and beauty standards by way of historical hairstyles. Learn about Monsieur Antoine, who died his poodle's hair a lilac shade, and Cleopatra, who convinced Julius Caesar to "cure his baldness with a blend of horse teeth and deer marrow, all spiced up with toasted mice." Then jump ahead to the sixties, when the The Supremes popularized the Bouffant and the Beatles brought the moptop to American TV. Slightly surreal illustrations, including a bird with a punk hairdo and a bear barber, serve as a backdrop to the text. The book ends with a text timeline of even more hairy anecdotes.
