Review:

Shad Weathersby turns his attention to the winter season with his latest CD Coming to Christmas. One gets the idea that Weathersby is as sick of the same old Christmas musical fare as everyone else is, and so he decided to write a new set of songs destined to be classics. "It's Christmas" is a look at Christmas in the bayou, while "Christmas To Be" celebrates family gatherings and traditional celebrations with wonderful child-like innocence. "Coming To Christmas" is a nice Searchers style ballad that also recalls the seasonal sentiments of Nat King Cole. One of the more extraordinary songs on the album is "Long Way To Bethlehem" which manages to fuse the classic tale of the first Christmas with the revelations of the New Orleans flood disaster.

Elsewhere, "Swingle Jingle" is a Meters-style romp, with a great kids chorus, while "Chasing Snowflakes" evokes the magical realism of The Nutcracker. "Santa's Sleigh" is a blues jam that does a fairly convincing job of persuading one that Ol' Saint Nick is actually from the Big Easy.

Tunes like "What Could Be Better" and "Christmas On the Farm" are priceless new contributions to the seasonal playlist. These tunes and such Cajun stompers as "Real Cool Christmas," and "Come On Baby" make for a very pleasing musical gumbo. The album closes with the sweet and sentimental "One Christmas Morning" which should get both children and adults excited for the holiday season.
