Prima Princessa Presents Sleeping Beauty
Spring 2012 DVDLittle ballerinas will be enthralled by Prima Princessa Presents Sleeping Beauty, a one-hour celebration of ballet that offers excerpts from a professional performance, dance instruction, and vignettes from a party filled with pirouetting preschoolers dressed in tutus and fairy wings.
Animated fairy Prima Princessa gathers the preschool girls to watch excerpts from Sleeping Beauty, gorgeously performed by The Royal Ballet in London. Parents may wish those clips lasted even longer but they're paced just right for little viewers. Prima Princessa even provides brief narration during the dance to help very young children interpret the storyline.
In between the Sleeping Beauty excerpts, vignettes take us to the School of American Ballet (the official academy of the New York City Ballet) where male and female students demonstrate simple ballet dance moves. The program ends with a couple of short vignettes, one featuring some of the preschool girls at a tea party, and the other delivering a short lesson about using pantomime to act out a story. The production value of those components is a little more homespun compared to the splendor of the Sleeping Beauty excerpts but that won't dampen the enthusiasm of preschool viewers.
Be sure to roll up the carpet and push back the furniture when you watch this DVD, because your little ballet lover is very likely to leap and twirl along with the dance playing on the TV screen.
