Review:

HBO Home Entertainment presents El Perro y El Gato: From Here to There/ De Aquí Para Allá, a collection of short animated vignettes that also run on HBO Latino.

El Perro (Dog) and El Gato (Cat) are bilingual best buddies. El Perro is always keyed up and El Gato is forever low-key, but that doesn't hinder their friendship. Together, the two share adventures that reinforce imagination, cooperation, and common daily routines and responsibilities, all while communicating through an energetic mix of English and Spanish. It's a more intensive approach to bilingual education than some programs that simply repeat a few foreign-language words here and there, and it's done so seamlessly here that little viewers won't have any trouble following the storylines.

This DVD collection includes seven vignettes-which add up to 24 minutes of program content-placing El Perro and El Gato in settings that range from an ordinary supermarket to outer space. The animation will appeal to viewers in the targeted two-to seven age range, offering bright colors and uncluttered lines, and the storylines are paced just right to hold their interest. As an added bonus, the quirky humor usually includes some sly, dry tidbits for the adults in the room.

$9.95 may seem a bit pricey for just 24 minutes of program content. Still, El Perro y El Gato: From Here to There/ De Aquí Para Allá offers a fun way to promote bilingual education, or, to entertain children in a bilingual household or preschool.

Other titles from this series include: The Adventure Begins/La Aventura Comienza; Unleashed/Sin Correa; Together Again/Juntos Otra Vez
