The Miracle Gro Kids Root Viewer Kit is a project in which you can plant carrots, onions, and radishes and watch them grow in a planter. You are instructed to plant the seeds close to the front of the planter that has a clear plastic wall so that you can watch the roots grow. It also comes with a popup educational chart that is easily read by children ages seven to twelve. Younger children will understand all of the terms used if the information is read to them. For example, the sheet tells what plants need to grow and explain what role each of those materials play in a plant's development. On the included worksheet, there is a place for children to write out their hypotheses about how the roots will grow and a table to record the growth of the roots. Our six to eight year old testers loved this project. It comes with everything you need, including dirt, seeds, and a see-through planter. It is easy to do, fun, and educational!

This project is entertaining, very educational, and inexpensive. The worksheet page for the children to write out hypotheses and monitor root growth will win over parents. The educational page was just the right length for young children. It provided good facts but was not too long or too complicated, perfect for inspiring, but not intimidating, budding scientists.
