Elephant's TrunkSpring 2012 Games
Elephant's Trunk is a fun and creative game that allowed our children to work on their turn taking rule-following. The packaging is very nice, and the divider in the box allows for easy, organized storage of the game. The instructions are clear and easy to understand, and the game, if played by the rules will challenge young minds because there are a sporadic challenges. In short, each player must discard all of the clothes tokens they hold into the elephants' trunks (suitcases). The first player to do so wins. There is a sneaky mouse who can set you back quickly, and a wooden elephant piece that allows a player to get rid of their tokens a bit faster.
This game took a little explaining to children, since the gameplay is unique, but it was fun explaining it to them in the context of helping the elephant get ready for a vacation. This game is good for helping develop turn taking and cooperation and competition skills and it can also help with colors, patterns and if you let kids help divide the tokens up, it can be a challenging math exercise as well. It is a pretty simple idea, but is creative and fun. It is great for a stay at home day, a rainy day, or for something to take on a family trip.
