Creatures - The Card Game
Spring 2012 GamesThe Creatures Card game is a unique game in which players strategize to make the strongest creature by mixing and matching various cards. The cards are divided into three groups (front, middle, and back), and each has a strength number. The goal is to combine three cards that will have the highest strength number possible. Players then use their creature creation to challenge the other players' creatures. Whoever's creature is the strongest (the highest number when all three cards are totaled together) becomes the champion of that challenge. Whoever has the most champions at the end, wins. This game is a lot of fun. It does require planning, addition, and organizational skills, so it is most appropriate for children ages 8 and older.
This game moves away from the standard "match" card games. It promotes thinking but because of this, it's better for older kids. My 8 year old could play independently but my 6 year old plays with an adult as a team. However, my guess is that after playing a few more times, she will probably figure out how to make the strongest creatures. For younger kids, it works on math skills as well! I would recommend this without reservation.
