Pearl Verses the World
Spring 2012 Fiction"Where is the book / about a girl / whose poems don't rhyme / and whose Granny is fading?" The answer is right here in this sensitively written story in poetry, Pearl Verses the World by Sally Murphy. Pearl lives with her single mom and her grandma, but her beloved Granny suffers from an Alzheimer's-type illness and no longer recognizes her. This book does a wonderful job of reflecting the confusion, sorrow, and anger felt by children in this situation, as well as addressing other coming-of-age issues such as school trouble, fitting in, and boys. A good choice for tweens and young teens.
