Review:

Penny Arlon's Scholastic Discover More: Planets is a contemporary exploration of the Earth's solar system, its planets, and the other elements composing near space, including moons, asteroid belts, and satellites. Written in an accessible tone, each page spread presents a planet or element of the solar system. The text focuses on a mix of our latest knowledge of the planet, and the historical context in which it was originally understood, discovered or named. The book is illustrated with digital collages and illustrations composed of artist renderings of planets and asteroids mixed with the latest photography of our galaxies planets and stars. There are generations of non-fiction children's books about the planets. Such books still matter in a post-Hubble telescope, internet accessible world where anyone can pull up astounding images of outer space at any time. It is important that children have access to books that they can hold, read and explore at their own pace and level.
