Review:

Like traditional eBooks, Even Monsters Get Sick is a charming story that offers both read "to me" and "by myself" options.

The story is a joy to play with and read, and it is a delightful way of helping young children learn the value of going to a doctor that will also lessen their fears of being sick. It models not only how to care for our loved ones when they are sick, but also the understanding that being sick doesn't last forever.

The child-voiced narration couldn't be better, and the graphics embrace curious young screen swipers. Almost every page offers some type of engaging or entertaining interaction. On the very first page, when the young narrator tells us that he traded certain items in exchange for a monster, readers are asked to conduct the transaction by selecting and dragging the appropriate items. Throughout the story, readers can click the tongue of the monster to hear it growl, follow a maze, and circle a vertigo-like vortex to swirl characters. These participatory activities prompt readers to touch, listen, laugh, and return to the app.
