Review:

This audio novel is the story of one young boy's love of music and his apprehensions about fulfilling the expectations of his parents. They want him to perform the "Walk across The Wire" to carry his family's fame into the next generation. The young boy, Gazzoon, was very fearful of the challenge he faced, especially after hearing how Wazoo had earlier pursued the same mission of walking across the very long wire attached to the tops of two mountain peaks. The story segments are interspersed with a variety of songs and poems with instrumental and vocal accompaniment that build interest and excitement during Gazzoon's journey. The story segments are upbeat and hold the listener's attention because of the variety of delivery techniques, special sound effects, and animated character voices.

The first three discs of this audiobook offer the novel, and the fourth disc contains 15 of the songs selected from the previous three discs. An attached booklet provides the words for the ten selections on this CD and other story segments.

This audiobook can be played during family road trips, thus providing opportunities to discuss the parents' goals for their children (and the children's reactions to those goals). Additional conversations could focus on the dangers that Gazzoon faced during the various steps of his adventures.
