Review:

As a child, I remember being fascinated by my father's National Geographic Magazine that arrived each month. But the small words and long spans of text made it feel inaccessible to me at that time. As a parent, I couldn't be happier to introduce my children to the world of National Geographic in the terrific, child-friendly versions of National Geographic Little Kids and National Geographic Kids.

The Kids version of National Geographic is designed for those ages 6 and up. With that audience in mind, this publication offers loads of fun facts in a format that is big and bold. Each page is filled to rim with all things weird, wacky and wondrous. Regular departments include Weird But True, Guinness World Records, Cool Inventions and Bet You Didn't Know. In between are classic National Geographic-style articles that cover animals, nature, weather, sports and more, in text just right for this age group. Special items also include collector's cards or pull-out posters.

The magazine certainly attracts the intended ages and has well-rounded features that appeal to both boys and girls. Parents may find the format overwhelming, however, as there is little breathing room between the overwhelming number of facts in each issue. But for kids who will return to these issues throughout the month, each read is sure to offer something new.
