Review:

Published by Cricket Magazine Group, Cicada is a literary magazine targeted to readers 14 years and up. Six times each year, Cicada delivers a diverse and thoughtful collection of poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and art. Each issue has a theme-Chickens and Curiosity were two recent ones. A Call for Creative Endeavors page instructs readers on how and where to submit their original writing and art.

It's a beautiful magazine. The creative material is polished and engaging, and it's a terrific showcase for creative minds that pairs young contributors with acclaimed writers like Louise Erdrich, a National Book Award winner. In a bonus feature called Week in the Life, readers can use words, photos, doodle art or a combination of all, to illustrate an actual week in his or her life - whether in a bustling urban city or on a Kentucky farm. It's a fun portrait of Cicada readers.

A hidden treasure lies in the editor's note of each magazine, where you can find excellent further reading recommendations tied to the issue's theme.
