Ranger Rick Jr.Spring 2013 Magazines
Ranger Rick Jr. is a wonderful publication. Formerly called Big Backyard, the magazine will have kids nearly dancing for joy with each issue's arrival in the mail. Many children in the magazine's suggested age range love looking at animals, and the incredible photography and complementary graphic layout will draw them in immediately. Our reviewer noted that even though her children usually read each issue cover to cover on the day it arrives, they frequently pick them up again several times, re-reading the text, or really absorbing the details in the photos. The text is always easy to read for early readers, and reveals interesting fact about the pictures - Adults will learn something new every time they read with their kids!
Ranger Rick Jr.'s content design encourages questioning: For example, one feature shows how "feathers come in all colors of the rainbow", with 7 different images of birds from the red cardinal to the violet fairy wren. In addition to seeing the beautiful bird in each picture, our tester's son commented on how colorful all birds are. Clearly, this magazine is designed to generate children's interest in and about the natural world. With the photography, stories, fun facts, and animal profiles, Ranger Rick Jr. is making nature lovers of the next generation of readers (and their parents as well!).
