Review:

The Red Hen… and More Cooking Stories is sure to satisfy the (story) appetites of even the most finicky young readers. Recommended for kids aged three through nine, the read-along stories on this DVD collection center around food-inspired themes and offer an eclectic mix of music and animation that elevate story-time to high art.

The Red Hen features bright and uncluttered animation as it tells the story of Red Hen and her attempts to engage friends as she bakes a cake. In Bread Comes to Life (voiced by Lily Tomlin), live-action video, interesting stop-motion photography, and rhythm and rhyme come together in a celebration of everyone's favorite carbohydrate. How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? features traditional animation to cleverly suggest proper table manners by speculating how dinosaurs eat. And the final entry, Arnie the Doughnut, features the voice talents of Michael McKean in a laugh-out-loud tale of the life and harrowing times of Arnie the Doughnut.

The DVD runtime is 56 minutes and it also features an easy cake recipe and a read-along feature in the Bonus Extras.
