Review:

Ahhhh…Former preschool teacher and indie rocker Justin Roberts guides listeners (of any age) to the quiet center of the day or evening with his signature mix of lyric originality, mellow vocals, polished harmonies, expertly layered instrumental arrangements and resonant imagery. In Roberts' serene take on counting sheep, "Count Them As They Go," dreamers count the gentle waves generated by a row boat, crows on a picket fence, leaves drifting from an oak tree and "…all the aching thoughts we keep just let them go like sheep it's 1-2 count them as they go just count them as they go…" Never saccharine, Roberts adds a dash of spice with quirky humor, too. In "What the Stork Sent," the bird in question is "flying over buildings watch him as he goes something so important is stuck between his toes…" All of the songs ("All for You," "No Matter How Far," "Polar Bear," "Heart of Gold," "Nothing On You, "Wild One," "Easier To Do," the title track included) carry a message of love and reassurance, deepened further by Roberts' evocative integration of piano, guitar, percussion, brass and strings. Thank you, Justin Roberts, for continuing to enrich the world of family music with your creative, life-affirming, child-respecting work.
