Disney Phineas & Ferb

Spring 2013 Video Games
Ages: 5 - 8 yrs.
Price: $24.99
Gaming System: LeapFrog Explorer

Disney's Phineas and Ferb have joined LeapFrog in their own LeapPad adventure. Children can join the loveable characters in a mathematical and scientific adventure as they attempt to cool off with a water balloon launcher. Children attempt to improve their launcher by gathering better parts. Along the way, they learn about electricity and circuits, forces and motion, simple machines, logic and reasoning, and mathematics. Players help Phineas and Ferb complete electrical circuits, learn which materials conduct or insulate electricity and explore simple machines to defeat Dr. Doofensmirtz. In one challenge, a conductive copper penny completes a circuit needed to open a locked door. At other points, solving math problems unlocks useful battery power-ups. There are "Platyball" challenges too, which ask players to position inclined planes and platforms that will guide a rolling character to his destination. The game can be played with easy or hard difficulty levels.

This game is a great early introduction to key STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) concepts including engineering, problem solving, and spatial analysis. Early exposure to these concepts has lasting educational benefits, and it helps when they are delivered with exciting challenges and engaging characters.
