Shelby's Snack Shack is a board game that teaches preschoolers numbers and counting, through the collection of bones each player retrieves after using a spinner spinning and picking that number of bones from the "beach" board. The subtraction concept is introduced when children spin a seagull or shoe on the spinner, which causes one to lose bones.

The game includes a colorful game board, 1 Shelby squeezer (basically a dog shaped set of large tweezers), 40 small plastic bones, 4 bowls, 1 double game spinner and a game guide.

Young children loved this game. They enjoyed using the large dog shaped tweezers to pick up and collect bones, a task that exercised their fine motor skills.

Perhaps because of the small sizes of the bones, the suggested age recommendation is 4 and up. That said, our reviewers thought that, with adult supervision, children ages two and three could play this game. It teaches number recognition (reading the numbers on the spinner) and is easy to play. A complete game only takes about 15 minutes, which is perfect for young children with short attention spans.

Beautiful design, including charming illustrations and a game box that also serves as a game board, add to this game's appeal.
