Review:

This is an excellent science kit for elementary schoolers. It contains 70 different experiments for them to do, so children can play for hours as they explore new subjects. The instruction booklet is well-written. Each experiment specifies what type of science (physical, earth or life), what area of science (chemistry, physics) and what specific skills (observation, classification) are involved. Each experiment specifies clearly what items from the kit are needed, as well as what, if any, items are required from the house (ranging from a notebook and pencil to vinegar and baking soda).

The instructions are clear, and include questions to ask children that will encourage them to observe details of the experiment under way ("What do you think will happen?" or "What else do you think would work the same way?"). For many experiments there is a "How does it work?" section to explain the phenomenon that was observed. For example, a plastic popper section talks about kinetic energy and potential energy. Several different experiments use included substances that absorb water—"super absorbent crystals", "tiger eye beads" and "insta snow powder." The how does it work section explains that the jelly crystals are really "cross-linked polyacrylamide polymer gel—molecules hooked together to make nets." While the language there might be too complex for young ones, they will still be able to appreciate the basics of the experiment.
