Review:

Many young readers gravitate toward non-fiction texts, and those who are history buffs will find much to absorb in World War II. The book is packed with vivid photos, maps, and detailed information that paint a picture of the events leading up to and through the war. There are five main sections within the book: the path to war, the war in Europe/the Atlantic, the Pacific, Africa/the Middle East, and the end of the war. There are many visual elements on each page, including timelines and cross-sections of military vehicles. A two-page spread called The War in Numbers provides some eye-opening facts as well. The abundance of information can be overwhelming for less proficient readers, but each section begins with three straightforward questions to help shape the reading experience and guide comprehension. Readers can access a free interactive digital book as well once they have purchased a hard copy. This is an excellent classroom resource, or simply a book to share with older children who are interested in military history.
