Review:

One look at the endpapers tells us we're in for quite a ride. Here, the opening sets the tone for a story that brings Karma to the animal kingdom. We see a tiger stalking a frog. And with one turn to the title page illustration, the action begins in earnest as we see the hungry tiger lurch after the frog.

"Frog fell into such a deep hole, he couldn't get out to save his soul..Mouse came to help but what could she do?...She tried reaching down, and she fell in, too." "Oh, no!" One after another, animals try to help their friends, and each tumbles into the deep hole. And the "Oh, no!" chorus begins.

With Eric Rohman's stunning colors of a jungle, Candace Fleming's jaunty rhyming text and animal sounds that are as fun to say as to hear, the simple story becomes a page turner. Rohman's relief print illustrations and keen use of space focus all eyes on each personality-filled animal and would-be rescuer. Fleming's wit, humor, and pitch perfect refrain, cheer readers on to a most satisfying end.

"Oh, No!" is sure to become "Again, please!"
