Review:

Professional storyteller Diane Edgecomb spins haunting, imagination-sparking magic out of legends and folk songs from the groves and forests of many lands, with expert and exquisite accompaniment from Celtic harpist Margot Chamberlain and ambient sounds that include chirping and trilling birds. A sampling of tracks includes: A Czech folktale, "The Dancing Spirit of the Birch," about a poor, hard-working peasant girl who is taught by a mysterious woman to dance "like the wind through the trees, so light and free;" The "Three Green Ladies," a tree spirit legend from Cornwall, England, has a lesson about greed and comeuppance at its evocative heart; and in the Japanese tale, "Kansakura--Sacred Cherry Tree," a young woman loses her heart to the god of love. Other tracks, equally expressive, come from Welsh, Australian and Cherokee traditions.
