Terzetto is a well-made, two player, head-to-head game where the object is to fill a board with sets of colored marbles according to patterns determined by balls in a shaker. Players shake the shaker, select three same-colored balls from their tray, and reproduce the shaker pattern on the 5 x 5 dimpled grid. Players alternate turns until no more moves are possible. The player with the most placed trios wins the game. A solo game suggestion is provided as well as the Terzetto Trio alternate play mode that our evaluator's family preferred. In this variation, each player selects and places balls of three different colors on a turn. The player with the most trios (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) at the end of play is the winner. Games are quick and fun, and Terzetto became our evaluator's pre-dinner family favorite for several weeks before it was put away.

It's hard to say if there is any real strategy in this game; we tried filling up one side of the grid first, or spreading trios out, but with mixed results, because it all comes down to the shaker. We experimented with the possibility of controlling the shaker results with deliberate movements, but the shaker's rigid plastic housing and tiny balls were too sensitive to movement and vibration to reliably control.
