Review:

The Doc McStuffins Get Better Checkup Center is a role playing toy. Playing the part of the doctor helps young minds understand the attention they get when they themselves have a doctor visit. Tending to sick patients helps them not only learn what doctors do to them but also helps them learn empathy for others when they are sick or hurt.

The Better Checkup Center is colorful and sturdy and has almost everything needed for a child to feel like the actual Doc McStuffins. It includes some fun extras, like a light up x-ray with plaques that look like actual x-rays. Our evaluator's daughter spoke about the x-rays as though they were real, and she used her imagination to address patients and use new doctor vocabulary words. There are other features, too. The portable scale makes it easy to weigh other "patients," and the lights and sounds keep a young imagination going. The Big Book of Booboos is cute, and its pages match what is seen on the Doc McStuffins cartoon. The bottom of the table is a little cabinet that makes storing the pieces quick so that they are easy to find later. One of the doors has a roll of sticker band-aids to help booboos feel better.

Though our evaluator did wish that more doctor accessories (like a lab coat) had come with the kit, she found the set to be an excellent toy for children interested in doctors and pretend play, regardless of whether they watch the related cartoon.
