Review:

It's the little things in life that matter. That's what greedy King Normous learns in veteran storyteller Bil Lepp's laugh-out-loud, wise tale that speaks directly to small children who can feel overwhelmed by the bigness of the world around them. King Normous can't claim to be "The King of All Things" until he conquers the land of the "King of Little Things." Piece of cake, Normous thinks, before the King of Little Thing's loyal subjects (insects, fungi, rust-causing drops of water) neutralize the invading army. Normous manages to trick the King of Little Things and imprison him, causing all of the little things in the world--trouser buttons, strings, stitches, nails and bolts, even the "ticks and tocks" of clocks--to rebel and stop working. (David T. Wenzel fills his comical watercolor illustrations with a treasure trove of little objects.) King Normous is humbled; the King of Little Things returns to his peaceful realm and children can enjoy the satisfaction of seeing just how important small things can be. This imaginative book ends with a pictorial list of objects that children can "seek-and-find" throughout the pages.
