The Klutz Toolbox Jewelry activity book is a 60-page guide to making jewelry out of hardware bits. Included in the kit are hundreds of nuts, washers, and fasteners, as well as more than enough ribbon and cord to make several projects; if the kit runs out, kids can always raid the toolbox or use other found objects to keep going.

The jewelry made by this set is, for the most part, genuinely pretty and something even an adult would be willing to wear. The ring made of tiny nuts and a fastener looked very much like hardware, but the ribbon-and-fastener bracelet was lovely, and the necklace from stars and a loop looked like something that retails for more than the cost of the entire kit. Working with the tiny pieces was tricky, and 8-year-old hands may especially need help tying tight knots with the cord; older preteens and teens will fare better, and may find themselves making all of their friends' gifts out of hardware this year.
