Review:

Ranger Rick Jr. integrates stunning photography into accessible and age-appropriate reading to draw children into the fascinating world of animals. Text is large, and easily matched to photos. The short, descriptive tidbits about animals present a nice combination of 'fun facts', and more in-depth learning. Ranger Rick Jr. encourages larger reflection by asking important questions, and provides some additional interaction with puzzles and fun activities in the end.

This magazine consistently passes the "pick it up" test in our reviewers' homes. Whenever it's left out on a shelf, counter or dresser, children pick it up, and almost always share something cool they've found in it with others. The increase in their vocabulary ("marsupial", "oxen" and "blowholes"), as well as the things they've learned, and remember, weeks after reading about animals, can be very impressive. Children love animals, and love learning about them… it's unclear if they like the magazine because of this love, or if the love was inspired by exposure to the magazine. Ranger Rick Jr is enough to inspire the love of learning in any reader.
