Odyssey isn't the only science-themed kids magazine on the market, but it may be one of the most in-depth. Many of the issues are themed, taking a multifaceted look at topics such as speed or the science of music. One particularly clever theme is "Sushi Science," which covers such stories as mercury content in fish, wasabi's heat vs. that of chili peppers, and the science behind omega-3 fatty acids.

While the text and graphics are lively and kid-friendly, Odyssey doesn't shy away from using technical terms. Introducing kids to scientifically accurate language (e.g., docosahexaenoic acid or DHA) expands their vocabulary and enriches their knowledge of the subject. Science process skills are also given attention by walking readers through a real-life research project. All in all, Odyssey is a great source for kids, and anyone else, interested in science.
