Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Minute Meals

Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Minute Meals

Spring 2014 Television
Ages: 13 - 16 yrs.
Rating: TV G

You've got to love Jamie Oliver's enthusiasm for food. He loves making it, but moreover, he loves to share ideas and recipes. His is a well-documented, honest desire to bring basic, unprocessed, healthier foods back to the table. And while plenty of folks love to watch cooking shows, Oliver is keenly aware that watching and doing are two different things, so Fifteen Minute Meals has distilled some great recipes down to the simplest of steps. The fast-paced show offers tips to make any cooking attempts successful, and uses pop ups and sidebars for best practice reminders.

Each segment features two distinct meals, usually a protein and a veggie. While a majority of the dishes have a British flair (he uses lots of bangers—what Americans call sausage), the dishes are big on variety and ethnicity. Healthy does not mean tasteless and Oliver emphasizes this often by highlighting the importance of fresh herbs and spices as key elements. Viewers will be tantalized to try these dishes by his enthusiasm and skill, although picky eaters may be a hard sell with recipes such as Sticky Squid Balls and Sausage Fusilli or Lamb Kofte and Keralan Veggie Curry. Then again, with his Food Revolution, Oliver has successfully converted some pretty tough cookies—politicians and lunch ladies—to bring healthier food into school. If his track record is any indication, he can surely sway choosy viewers with some of his many tasty recipes.
