Review:

With evocative melodies and a master tale-spinner's ability to engage listeners of all ages, music educator, Appalachian storyteller and multi-instrumentalist Adam Booth relates the poignant chronicle of a life-filled, life-giving mountain. Animals and insects, creeks and rivers, wild flowers and apple trees, farms and forests, hillsides for dreaming under the stars all fated to be lost to mining, "cut down from the top, layer by layer, until nothing is left but flatness..." Booth's singing voice is by no means notable for strength or polish, as is clear from his overly earnest, albeit heartfelt vocals on a few tracks, but his lively and soulful word pictures linger in the imagination. Joined by other fine musicians, singers and choral groups, Booth creates a world of human community and nature in harmony ("it was an old mountain, but it was filled with rhythms that rose up from the earth and reached toward the sky"). Listeners can learn more at www.adam-booth.com about the Appalachian region, old time music and instruments and the issue of mountain top removal.
