Oh Noah!

Oh Noah!

Spring 2014 Website
Ages: 6 - 8 yrs.
Publisher: Thirteen/WNET

The Oh, Noah! website on is a fun and animated place for young children to explore learning Spanish. Friendly, kid centered and safe (no pop-ups, no ads, just the cartoon), our Spanish speaking (and teaching) reviewers found the site to be educational and engaging.

The lessons center around Noah, a well-meaning but often misunderstood nine year old boy who guides young player/learners through games, videos, and hands-on activities designed to reinforce and build Spanish vocabulary.

Young player/learners can mouse over objects on the screen to hear the Spanish translation. Three different vocabulary-driven, arcade-style games reinforce learning. Leveling and racing against the clock encourage replay and repeated exposure to vocabulary. And "How Do You Say…?," helps kids learn common expressions in Spanish.

Some of the games (like the "catch the picture" game) required quite a bit of hand-eye coordination that may be difficult for younger children (or perhaps those not accustomed to anything other than touch screen). Our younger testers were sometimes frustrated about the time limits given to answer or finish a game. Time often ran out before young ones could get into the rhythm of the game; 30 seconds just isn't enough for young children to absorb, comprehend, and complete. At first, some of the vocabulary seemed a bit advanced, but after a bit of practice they were able to "almost" pronounce the more difficult words. We call that learning! The directions to play were very simple to understand for older children and animated for younger minds. The well designed repetition of both pictures and vocabulary helped reinforce the new learning taking place.

With the variety of vocabulary games, videos and activities, there's plenty to play and learn on Oh Noah!.
