Review:

Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! There's a Party in my City! takes kids' favorite elements of the popular Nickelodeon television series and presents them in an energetic stage performance. Shot at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles (the city gets a lot of shout-outs in this program), the live-to-tape concert includes colorful characters, special celebrity guests, and contagiously upbeat tunes.

DJ Lance and the costumed cast perform about a dozen Yo Gabba Gabba favorites, including "Name Game" and "There's a Party in My Tummy." Special guest performers include popular beat-boxer Biz Markie and the quirky American rock/New Wave/ska band, The Aquanauts. Bonus features offer up three separate backstage and behind-the-scenes vignettes filled with celebrity interviews (among them Jack Black, Fred Savage and Jaleel White), plus additional musical performances for a total DVD runtime of a little over an hour.

This production includes lots of shots of families in the audience singing, dancing, clapping and bouncing beach balls among the confetti-strewn theater and it's not hard to imagine that even the "couchiest" of couch potatoes at home will join in the festivities. Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! There's a Party in my City! is a song-and-dance celebration best suited to kids six and under but lots of parents have also come to appreciate Yo Gabba Gabba for its cool special guests and sly performance-art qualities. If your little fan couldn't make it to see the actual concert tour then this DVD is a satisfying substitute.
