Review:

Charlie Brown's All Stars! from Loud Crow Interactive is the retelling of the classic 1966 children's show in which the Peanuts gang learns some valuable lessons about team spirit and friendship while playing the biggest baseball game of the summer. The story is still just as effective, just as charming, and just as beautifully written as it was in 1966, and this interactive iPad version is bringing it to a new generation.

The original illustrations are unchanged except for being made interactive with a neat "cut-out" feel to tell the story for the digital age. The story is narrated by Stephen Shea, who was the original voice of Linus, and uses the same music and sound effects as the original tv show.

The story has a nice length to it that will keep children interested for either a long reading session or several nights of shorter bedtime stories. As with most interactive books today, users can either read it by themselves or have it read to them, and all of the words on the pages are interactive—you can touch them to hear them read to you.

But what really makes this app a home run is that there are several sections where the user must interact with the app and story in order to turn the pages. The story cannot continue without the user helping Charlie Brown pitch the ball, or helping him get a hit while at bat, etc.. As opposed to many interactive storybooks that incorporate interactivity via clickable background objects on the screen that can be touched to receive a definition of the object, this story is dependent on the user being involved and invested in the story, something reviewer's children have loved.

Charles M. Schulz and the Peanuts gang live on inside your iPad with Charlie Brown All-Stars!
