For children who have a loved one in the hospital, this app could be a constructive or helpful tool. Luca Lashes apps are interactive storytime modules that enable children and grown-ups to move through the story at will, backwards and forwards, while making all of the visible objects interactive for children. The text and voice over are available in English, French, Italian, Spanish and Chinese and each word is highlighted when spoken. Luca Lashes Visits Mommy in the Hospital is especially helpful for children who are learning to process a loved one's illness and the procedures that come with it.

The basic story of this app is that Luca's mother is in the hospital with an "owie" and Luca is visiting her with his father. The plot follows Luca as he processes his emotions of being sad that his mother is not home with him and is sick, and of being intimidated of the hospital and what happens there. Luca's dad helps him to deal with the situation by holding his hand, encouraging him to spend time making a card to bring to his mother and reassuring Luca that his mom will be home soon. Each page includes objects that animate and give explanations on touch, such as when Luca runs to his mom and kisses her head as she is lying in a hospital bed attached to various devices with an IV, the IV and other devices can be clicked to provide explanations. A helpful list at the end of the story suggests learning the rules of a specific hospital before a visit, preparing a child in advance and encouraging the child to ask questions or at least share their feelings after the visit.
