Review:

My eight year old daughter greeted Isabelle like a new friend, eager to install the removable pink hair extensions (trickier than the diagram made them out to be, but secure and a really cute touch once they were installed), and they played together daily. The doll is the same high quality as all the American Girl products and holds up to enthusiastic pretend play and styling.

Similarly, my daughter thoroughly enjoyed the book as well. No dancer herself, the story led her to ask questions and read up on the basics of ballet, and the plot of the book enhanced her pretend play with the doll. Isabelle, to my surprise, is by no means the star of the class, nor even second best and attaining greatness through pluck and determination. By the end of the novel she is learning that not everyone who pursues the arts is going to be a professional, but that one can labor at artistic pursuits for the sake of personal joy while also finding satisfaction in many other skills in life. This is a commendable lesson.
